This catalogue is a result of joint activities of the
Ministry of Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship
and organizations gathering business people and
craftsmen in the Republic of Croatia.
In these days of rapidly growing economies and
globalization, the geographic distances having no
impact on market fragmentation, but stimulating
the establishing of closer ties, and the time, in this
respect, being hardly a barrier, we have decided
to present to you the companies which have both
the ambition and the capacity to be competitive on
the specific market of the country with the highest
number of population.
In the previous year, 2004, China ranged among the top ten Croatian foreign trade partners
due to the significant import of Chinese products, mostly the consumer goods. Having in
mind the exceptional political relations as well as a long tradition of friendship between
the two countries, and being aware of the potentials of the Chinese market as well as the
competitiveness of Croatian products, we have decided to present some Croatian companies
and their products which we consider capable of being competitive in China.

shops since they are manufactured according to original procedures and ecologically safe
production techniques. The Croatian woods and wood industry are known for the top quality of

CROATIA DECLARED ITS
INDEPENDENCE IN 1991
The Republic of Croatia, a country with a
thousand-year-old history, rst appeared on
the political map of Europe in 1991, when
it declared its independence. Its new status
was con rmed a year later when it became
a United Nations member. It covers a land
area of 56.542 sq. km and 31.067 sq. km
of territorial waters. According to the latest
census from 2001, Croatia has a population
of 4.4 million inhabitants.
The Republic of Croatia is mid-sized
European country consisting of two regions:
continental Croatia, which belongs to central
Europe, and coastal Croatia, which lies
on the Mediterranean. Croatia is a state at
the crossroad of large European regions
and it shares boarders with: Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia and
Montenegro at the continent and Slovenia,
Italy and Serbia and Montenegro at the sea.
Croatian experience and Croatian history, from
ancient times to the present circumstances,
have strengthened the self-con dence, the
people's faith in their own strength, values
and tradition, laying down the irreplaceable
foundations of today's Croatia, as a strong,
stable, democratic and modern European
state.
THE PRIORITIES OF THE
GOVERNMENT OF CROATIA
The main priorities for Croatia are, above
all, to ensure the renewal and growth of
the Croatian economy. The Government
plans to bring new dynamics to economic
activity in general and particularly to
domestic production, through a series of
complementary developmental measures,
including a reduction in taxes to strengthen
entrepreneurship, agriculture and domestic
production and services as a whole, ensure
economic growth through an increase in
investment in science and technology, to bring
order to state nances, to encourage growth
of employment through the implementation
of new economic programmes, increase
exports and the export competitiveness of
Croatian products, to increase overall social
standards, especially of social classes in
dif cult material positions, to provide for
greater spending on education and schools,
health, the justice system, to carry out a
thorough reform of the state administration
and speed up talks on Croatia's entry into the
European Union and NATO.
EU & NATO
In June 2004, Croatia became an of cial EU
candidate country after signing a Stabilization
and Association Agreement (SAA) with the
EU in 2001 and submitted its application for
EU membership in February 2003. The SAA
offers major nancial incentives for Croatia
but also sets conditions with the goals of
democratization, the development of a market
economy and regional cooperation. Croatia
became a member of NATO's Membership
Action Plan in May 2002, which provides a
framework for political and defense reforms.
MARKET ECONOMY
Since declaring its independence, Croatia has
achieved signi cant progress in developing
a market economy and positioning itself
regionally.
During the rst years of independence, due
to the war, Croatia's economy experienced a
standstill. Growth began after 1994, and in
the period to 1998 Croatia produced average
annual GDP growth rate of 5.6%. After that
the national economy stagnated and this was
followed by recession. Since 2000 growth has
resumed and in the last years GDP growth
has averaged 4.2%.
BASIC MACROECONOMIC
INDICATORS
In 2004, the evaluated growth of GDP is
3,8%, and projections for 2005 show the
expected growth of 4.1 to 4.4%. The industrial
production in 2004, as compared with the year
2003, has increased by 3.7%. The in ation

rate, measured by retail prices growth, was
1.8%, which ranks Croatia among transitional
countries with the lowest in ation. The same
trend (2,0%) has also continued during the
past year, while projections for 2005 show the
expected in ation of 2.3 to 2.9%. In December
2004, the unemployment rate was 18.7%.
In 2004, the evaluated total GDP was 34,3
billions of USD or 7.700 USD per capita.
The structure of GDP is a re ection of the
services-based economy: 70% of GDP
relating to services, 20% to industry and the
remaining 10% to agriculture.
The total external debt at the end of 2004
was 30 billions of USD (80% of GDP), while
the foreign currency reserves have reached
the amount of 8,4 billions of USD. According
the projections for 2005, the budget de cit is
expected to be 3.7% of GDP.
In 2004 the total commodity exchange
amounted to 24,6 billions of USD. Imports
amounted to 16,5 billions of USD (17%
growth) and exports to 8,0 billions of USD
(30% growth). The coverage of imports by
exports increased to 48%. The main trading
partners of the Republic of Croatia are the EU
Member States, among which Italy, Germany,
Austria, Slovenia, France and Hungary are
the most important export destinations and
import sources. Croatia has also developed
very good trade relations with countries in the
region: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and
Montenegro and Macedonia. Other important
trade partners are the Russian Federation,
the People's Republic of China and the US.
CROATIA'S PRIORITIES
Croatia's priorities include the following areas:
shipbuilding, processing industry, tourism,
agriculture, development projects in the eld of
road and railway infrastructure, energy sector
and telecommunications.
SHIPBUILDING
Shipbuilding industry and the ship, as the
most important export product of Croatia,
perform an important role in the Croatian
economy. The order book containing 74
ships worth 2,2 billions of US dollars provides
for full employment of shipbuilding capacities
for several years and ranks the Croatian
shipyards to the second position in Europe
and the fth in the world.
INDUSTRY
Within the Croatian producing industry, apart
from the shipbuilding, the largest income
comes from chemical and petrochemical
industry, electrical manufacturing industry,
food and tobacco industry, etc. Regarding
employment and exports, the textile and
clothing industries are also very important.
150 YEARS OLD TRADITION IN
TOURISM
As one of the most important tourist
destinations on the Mediterranean, Croatia is
proud of its more than 150 years old tradition
in tourism and favourable developmental
opportunities. Croatia has demonstrated
impressive growth in this sector. The share
of the tourist sector in the GDP is about 16%.
In 2004, 8 millions of foreign tourist visited
the Republic of Croatia, which has been
an increase by 7,0% compared to the year
2003, while the registered tourist overnights

increased by 3.0%. In 2004, the revenues
generated by tourist consumption were
estimated to about 7,4 billions of USD. Most
of the overnights has been realized by the
tourists from EU countries but a signi cant
increase of arrivals and overnights of tourists
from the US, Japan, and other Non-European
countries has been noticed as well. The
renowned American publisher of the tourist
guidebook, The Lonely Planet declared
Croatia to be the most desirable world tourist
destination in 2005.
TRADE GENERATES 11% OF
CROATIAN GDP
Retail trade has an important role in the
Croatian economy. Almost 50% of Croatian
economic entities are engaged in retail
trade. This activity generates about 11% of
the Croatian GDP. In the period 2000-2004,
the tendency towards concentration and
internationalization extended to this activity,
which resulted in a mild increase of domestic
companies share on the market, but also in
an increase of the number of foreign chain
retailing organizations and hypermarkets.
More than 90% of the banking sector belongs
to foreign entities, primarily to Austrian, Italian
and German banks.
PRIVATIZATION & INVESTMENTS
In 2005, the Croatian Government is planning
to speed up privatization. In this period, the
privatization of the tourist portfolio should
be completed. The progress in agribusiness
privatization is expected as well.
As soon as favourable political conditions
have been created, foreign investors started
to invest in our economy. The investments
primarily included great privatization projects
such as the ownership transformation of the
leading Croatian pharmaceutical company,
banks and telecommunications. Also, the
rst phase of Oil Company privatization was
completed in 2003 by selling of 25% plus 1
share to the strategic investor – Hungarian
MOL.
AUSTRIA, GERMANY AND THE
UNITED STATES ARE THE LEADING
INVESTORS IN CROATIA
Foreign direct investments for the period
from 1993 to 2004 amounted to 10.7 billions
of USD, and the highest one-year's amount
of 2,0 billions of USD was achieved in the
year 2003. In 2004, almost 1,0 billion of
USD FDIs were registered in the Republic
of Croatia. Among transition countries, the
Republic of Croatia occupies the fourth
position on the list of foreign investments per
capita, immediately after the Czech Republic,
Hungary and Estonia. Austria, Germany
and the United States are the leading three
investors in Croatia.
In Croatia, the Investment Promotion Act
is in force, but at the beginning of 2005,
the amendments that will considerably
improve the investment atmosphere in the
Republic of Croatia, both for domestic and
for foreign investors, are in the Parliamentary
procedure.
INVESTMENT & EXPORT
PROMOTION AGENCY
The Government will activate the Investment
Promotion Agency that will guarantee, to both

domestic and foreign investors, a prompt and
effective settlement of all the administrative
issues related to investment projects
realization and initiation of new production
and services.
14 free zones, in which about 24 millions of
US dollars have been invested and in which
more than 3000 people have been employed,
are currently operating in Croatia.
The Government will be creating encouraging
atmosphere for faster development of
the Croatian entrepreneurship. A special
role is attributed to small and medium
entrepreneurship through the establishment
and development of entrepreneurial zones,
as well as industrial districts.
The economic growth will be additionally
promoted by faster inclusion into multilateral
trade and economic integrations.
WTO MEMBERSHIP
The World Trade Organization membership
acquired in November 2000 was the rst
step in creating liberal and globally integrated
economy.
JOINING THE EUROPEAN UNION
The next strategic goal of Croatia is to become
a part of the European integration processes
with the ultimate aim of joining the European
Union.
Years-long efforts of Croatia to approach the
EU membership resulted in the Decision of
the European Council to promote Croatia to
an of cial candidate for the EU membership,
dating from June 2004.
The negotiating framework for Croatia,
which lays down the guiding principles,
the substance and the procedures for the
accession negotiations, was adopted at the
European Council meeting, held on March
16, 2005. However, the opening of accession
negotiations has been postponed due to
the lack of full co-operation with the ICTY.
The intergovernmental conference will be
convened by common agreement as soon
as the Council establishes that Croatia is fully
cooperating with the ICTY. On that occasion,
the European Council once again reaf rmed
the EU's commitment to the accession of
Croatia.
80% OF THE CROATIAN FOREIGN
TRADE IS BASED ON
FREE TRADE PRINCIPLES
Having signed Free Trade Agreements
with the number of countries, Croatia
demonstrated its desire to deepen and
strengthen the already existing ties with its
neighbours, the countries of the region and of
Europe. The Republic of Croatia is a member
of CEFTA and has also concluded Free
Trade Agreement with the EFTA member
states. Croatia has liberalized trade with 37
European countries, which means that more
than 80% of its foreign trade is based on free
trade principles. Free Trade Agreements
enable growth of trade exchange among the
countries and the removal of trade barriers.
As a small and open transition country with
small market, Croatia needs to expand the
market for its products through the conclusion
of Free Trade Agreements.
However, Croatia needs not only to increase
exports and the export competitiveness of
its products in the Region and in Europe,
but also to explore possibilities to expand its
presence on the overseas markets, as well
as in China.
CROATIA & CHINA
ECONOMIC RELATIONS
Immediately after the diplomatic relations at
the intergovernmental level were established,
all the Agreements in the eld of the economy
were signed, thus creating necessary
preconditions for sustainable growth and
development.

CHINA IS AMONG THE TEN MOST
IMPORTANT TRADE PARTNERS
According to the Croatian statistical data,
the trade exchange in 2004 amounted to
642.7 millions US dollars, or 56% increase
in relation to 2003, thus placing China at
the eighth position on the Croatia's most
important trade partners list.
The value of the Croatian exports was only
7,2 millions US dollars, which has been an
increase of 67%, while the import amounted
to 635,5 millions US dollars, or 56,2%
increase in relation to the same period of the
last year.
The statistic data show that there is a great
disproportion in the commodity exchange
between Croatia and China. Since the Chinese
side has generously expressed its interest
to intervene additionally with the solution of
this problem and demanded to receive the
list of the Croatian export products, we have
undertaken activities to ful ll that task.
LIST OF CROATIAN COMPANIES &
PRODUCTS FOR THE
CHINESE MARKET
The institutions assembling businesspersons:
the Croatian Chamber of Economy, the
Croatian Employers' Association, the Croatian
Exporters and the Croatian Chamber of Trades
and Crafts, have contacted their members
and tested the interest of Croatian companies
for export of their products and services to
the Chinese market, that is, the interest
of establishing and developing business
relations with the Chinese partners.
The joined material printed in this catalogue
contains data on 91 Croatian companies,
including their names, elds of activity, web
sites, contact persons, e-mail addresses and
telephone numbers, as well as the concrete
product or service that a Croatian business
subject is willing to place on the Chinese
market.
The Croatian companies that have expressed
interest in this perform different activities, from
food-processing, pharmaceutical industry,
engineering, textile, wood, metalworking
industry, electrical manufacturing industry,
shipbuilding, ceramics, chemical industry, IT
sector, to the service activities of seaports
and airports, constructing and inspection
services. Some of the above companies
have already established cooperation with
partner companies in the People's Republic
of China, while the others come forward for
the rst time and would like to make contacts
with the Chinese partners.
The Ministry of Economy, Labour and
Entrepreneurship believes that many of the
companies mentioned could be competitive
on the Chinese market, especially companies
in the eld of electro manufacturing industry,
timber and wood industry, engineering
industry and other industries intended for
shipbuilding, as well as for railways and
rail transport, food-processing industry
and pharmacy, tractor and motor cultivator
production, mini breweries, production of
alcoholic drinks and vines.
We believe that the Croatian companies
could be successfully involved in projects
in the eld of electric power supply,
hydraulic engineering, civil engineering and
building construction, architectural projects,
engineering and technical consulting.
We would like to emphasize good
geographical positioning and the quality of
equipment of the Croatian seaports, river
ports and airports that Chinese companies
could use for their goods on their way to
Europe and to the countries in the Region.
We are con dent that with our mutual efforts
and already expressed Chinese support the
result will not fail to come.

罗地亚以其150年的悠久旅游传统和旅游发展
的优厚条件引以为豪.克罗地亚在这一领域
取得了显著的增长.旅游业在克罗地亚共和
国的国民生产总值中占到16%.2004年,克罗
地亚共和国接待了800万外国游客,与2003年
相比,外国游客增长了7.0%,登记过夜数增
长了3.0%.2004年外国游客消费收入估计为
74亿美元.绝大多数过夜的游客来自欧盟国
家,同时也显著增加了来自美国,日本,及
其他非欧洲国家和海外国家游客的来访率和
过夜率.美国著名的旅游指南出版商《孤独
行星》宣告,克罗地亚是2005年最理想的世
界旅游目的国.
商业占克罗地亚国民生产总值的
11%
零售商业在克罗地亚的经济中占有重要地
位.几乎50%的克罗地亚经济实体从事零售
商业,该领域约占克罗地亚国民生产总值的
11%.在2000年至2004年期间,集中化和国际
化的趋势扩展到该领域,这导致国内企业市
场份额的占有率略有增长,同时亦使外国零
售连锁店和超级市场的数字有所增加.
90%以上的银行系统属外国所有,其中主要是
奥地利,意大利和德国的银行.
私有化与投资
克罗地亚政府计划在2005年加快私有化进
程.在此期间,需要完成旅游业部门的私有
化,并预计推动农业综合企业的私有化.
在创造了有利的政治条件后,外国投资者开
始向我国经济中投资.投资首先涉及到重大
的私有化项目,诸如领先的克罗地亚的制药
业,银行业和电讯业的所有权转换.同时,
伊纳石油企业私有化第一阶段在2003年业已
完成,其25%加1的股权出售给战略投资者–
匈牙利的MOL石油公司.
奥地利,德国和美国 - 克罗地亚主
要的投资者
1993年至2004年,外国直接投资共计107亿美
元,其中2003年创造了最高的年投资额,达
20亿美元.2004年克罗地亚共和国吸引了约
10亿美元的外国投资.克罗地亚共和国的人
均外国投资在转型经济国家中占第四位,仅

在克罗地亚有《鼓励投资法》加以保障,该

政府正在成立出口与投资促进机构,它将保

克罗地亚经过申请入盟的多年努力,终于使
欧洲理事会做出决定,于去年6月接受克罗地
亚为欧盟成员国的正式候选人.
欧洲理事会在2005年3月16日的会议上为克
罗地亚制定了谈判框架,其中包括入盟谈判
的指引性原则,内容和程序.然而,谈判的
实施由于缺乏与前南斯拉夫国际刑事法庭的
充分合作而被推迟.一旦理事会确认克罗地
亚与前南斯拉夫国际刑事法庭的充分合作,
政府间的会谈将根据共同的协议举行.届时
欧洲理事会将重新确认欧盟对克罗地亚的承
诺.

贸易原则
通过签署一系列自由贸易协议,克罗地亚表
达了它的意愿,希望进一步深化和加强与其
邻国,本地区国家和欧洲的现有联系.克罗

成员,同时与欧洲自由贸易联盟国家的成员
国也签订了自由贸易协议.克罗地亚目前与
37个欧洲国家实行自由贸易,这意味着克罗
地亚80%以上的对外贸易建立在自由贸易原则
的基础上.
自由贸易协议增加了国家间的贸易交换,同
时也消除了贸易壁垒.克罗地亚作为一个小
的和开放的转型经济国家,拥有较小市场,
需要通过签署自由贸易协议加大其产品市
场.
克罗地亚与中国的经济关系
两国建交以来,立即在经济领域签署了所有
协议,它为双边经济关系的持续的增长和发
展创造了必要条件.
中国是克罗地亚共和国十个最重要
的贸易伙伴之一
根据克罗地亚国家统计局的资料,2004年克
罗地亚共和国和中华人民共和国的商品交换
额共计64,270万美元,比2003年增长56%,中
国在克罗地亚最重要的贸易伙伴中位于第八
位.克罗地亚向中华人民共和国的出口价值
仅有720万美元,比上年同期增长67%,而进
口达63,550万美元,比上年同期增长56,2%.
统计资料表明,克罗地亚和中国的贸易交换
中间存在着巨大不均衡.鉴于中国方面慷慨
地表达了愿意解决这一问题兴趣,并且希望
收到克罗地亚出口产品的清单,我们采取了
相应的配合加以满足.
